My Favorite Summer Break

Reyansh Nimma

Hi, my name is Reyansh Nimma, and I’m going to share a story about my 2023 summer break.

This was it, my favorite day of the year, May 26th, school was finally out, and I just finished fourth grade. I couldn’t wait to get home and just sit in front of the TV, but it wasn’t just TV that made this summer break stand out, it was the fact that we were going to India!!! The last time we went was in 2017, so I couldn't wait!

As soon as we got home, we were watching TV, but the next day we were packing our belongings. This was because we were going to stay for almost 2 months!!!

After a long day of packing we couldn’t wait for tomorrow, because it was my brother, Rithik’s, eighth birthday! We got a cake and celebrated. For the next few days we were waiting, and soon enough we were finally ready to board the flight. We checked our bags in and got our boarding passes, and a few hours later we stepped on to our flight.

After all the napping and video games, we got to Germany for a quick stop, and after a few minutes we were off to Delhi, India. After we got to Delhi, we had to wait for at least 3 hours to get our bags checked in, but after waiting and having a quick bite, we were finally ready to go to Hyderabad, India.
Once we finally got there my uncle and my grandpa came to pick us up. We took a quick drive and got to our relative’s place. We stayed there for about a week, and soon went to our ancestral home to stay for most of the vacation. I got to see my great-grandmother who was 93 years old at that time, and is still living!!!

After about 2 weeks, we were hosting a function that officially makes us young men. The function was also for my little sister’s cradle ceremony, so lots of people attended. We got many gifts and toys, and we got to open them on the days after the ceremony. This was one of my most favorite memories of India.

The ceremony was basically the main reason for going, but we still had to visit some very important pilgrimage

places in many different states. One place was so far that we had to take a train for the whole night!

The main events were over, so all that was left was to play with our sisters and to visit other relatives. On the last day we were just checking the weight of our belongings, since we had to take some other items that we needed in the U.S., such as gifts and utensils. Once we boarded the plane we were a tad bit gloomy, but also really excited. We weren’t just going to have quick stops like before, we were going to stay in Dubai for 4 days!!!

Once we landed we went to the 5-star hotel we booked, unpacked our bags, went to a beach, and got ready to eat dinner.

On the next day we went to one of the most popular scenic destinations in Dubai, the one and only Burj Khalifa!! The view from the 124th floor was nauseating! It was so high that people at the bottom looked like ants!! I was literally on top of the world!!

We also went shopping at Dubai’s largest mall after touring the skyscraper.

The next day, we were going on a desert safari. We rode on the highest sand dunes all over the border of Dubai. Once the sun set, we sat on top of a huge camel and took a few pictures. After a few minutes of driving, we got to a hut to eat dinner and watch a show.

On the last day, we packed our suitcases to go back to the U.S. and we boarded the plane. We took a quick stop in Newark, NJ, and finally reached Houston.

Over the last days of summer break, I was just working on a Lego that could move through the water with a pull-back mechanism. We also took some swimming lessons before school.

About 2 weeks after finishing my creation, school started and I was entering fifth grade.

This was one of my most favorite and most unique summer breaks, I hope you enjoyed it!!
