Almost half of Texas fourth graders scored a zero on the STAAR writing composition last year. Only 27% of Houston 3rd Graders are reading on grade level. Literacy rates in Houston are declining at an alarming rate. On top of this, Texas students are witnessing an extreme rise in book bans that target LGBTQIA+ and POC titles, losing their right to diverse literature through schools. Inclusive Ink acts as a platform for students in the Houston community through two outlets: publishing student work and educating underprivileged students.
